Jillian Kicks My Butt - Week 8 - Sunday

No change in weight this week. It figures, the week I decide "Screw the scale!" is the week it starts pissing me off. I know the problem is that I'm not eating clean enough. I think the homemade wraps and bread and granola bars have to go. It's not fair. Some people can eat Lean Cuisines and frankenfoods all day long but my homemade-with-good-ingredients stuff (plus a bowl of Fiber One every other day) gets me in trouble. I don't think I need to decrease my calories. I am sometimes out of my SparkPeople calorie range (usually by 100 calories or less) but I also burn way more calories than I have allotted. No, I'm not under eating, either. I'm not eating enough or working out hard enough to gain muscle at this stage of the game. so the quality of my diet must be jacked up.

I've finally found my M&M nemesis - the new strawberried peanut butter Transformer M&Ms. I bought some for my son and he actually let me have one and it was not pleasing to my palette. These particular candies are safe from me and my love affair with the melt in your mouth, not in your hand goodness. But honestly, I'm so frustrated with my lack of weight loss that I might eat crap today, just for spite. Okay, I won't because I know it will just piss me off even more and probably kick off a binge, which I don't need right now. I need to focus and get through this.

9:00 AM - scrambled eggs w/ green pepper, onion, salsa & cube steak

9:45 AM - homemade protein granola bar

12:55 PM - tuna salad w/ onion, green pepper, tomatoes, baby carrots & light Italian dressing

2:50 PM - baby carrots & mozzarella string cheese

5:45 PM - ground turkey & spaghetti squash

8:00 PM - almonds & mandarin oranges

Three cups of coffee and 120 ounces of water.

I can't see why you'd need to kick your homemade granola and homemade wraps - those seem like such good foods, especially since you know exactly what goes in to them. If your weight has only stayed the same for one week I'd say just be patient. I don't think you've reached some kind of 3-week plateau have you? You're doing awesome Becky, and I love the picture of you and your son!

I was actually up 1.5 pounds last week. In 8 weeks, I've only lost a net total of 1.5 pounds. There's room for improvement somewhere. I am looking at the big picture and not just week to week.

Hmmm...I see. WWJS? That is: What Would Jillian Say?" :) I've heard people call in before with plateau issues and she's said to up calories for a week and take a rest from exercising. It doesn't seem like you need to up your calories because you do a good job of varying them. Do you ever take a rest day? I truly don't see where you need to clean up your diet though and your calorie range is good. Maybe your body is adapting to this workout?? Though I know you haven't been doing it for 8 weeks..

The workout idea did cross my mind, but I have not been doing the same thing for 8 weeks straight. Shred changes ever 10 workouts. I changed my weight routine 4 weeks ago, but I'm increasing the weights as I go. I also swapped out one Jillian video for a Turbo Jam 2 or 3 weeks ago. The ONLY thing I've done for the whole 8 weeks is 30 minutes of Biggest Loser cardio twice a week. I do have my rest day on Sundays.

Maybe my calories are too high? I very, very rarely eat over maintenance levels, but maybe I'm overestimating my activity level. I consider it moderate, due to the exercise, but there's not a whole lot going on otherwise, just basic housekeeping & parenting duties.

I don't know. I'll see what happens in 2 weeks when I pull out the tape measure. I'm just waiting to finish Shred so I can do that.

Oh, I've also been doing Banish Fat Boost Metabolism for 8 weeks - alternating once or twice a week.

You do burn a TON of calories during your workouts (I'm jealous!) but maybe now that you've lost weight your BMR has gone down and therefore don't need as many calories? I wouldn't drop them too much...maybe at first try knocking out 100-150 calories a day and see what happens?

It doesn't sound as though you need more variety in your workouts - you do a good job of mixing things up. Plus you increase your weights and that's always good.

Those M&Ms sound awful! I'd steer clear of them too! :oP

I can imagine how frustrating that is! You're doing everything right, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be working right now. The only thing I can suggest is tweaking something a bit and then seeing what happens. Lowering calories a bit, etc. I wish I could offer more help! At least you know you can vent to me - I don't mind because I can sympathize!

Honestly, I think it's the Splenda in my coffee. I may have to switch to Stevia or learn to drink it unsweetened (because I don't like Stevia).

I've pretty much kicked Splenda entirely myself, though it didn't affect my weightloss for my first challenge. It's probably going to be a lot harder, because I used to take sugar in my tea (way back when) and when I decided to opt out I went down to one sugar and then zero. I abhor the taste of Stevia and I have no clue how it can be a sugar substitute. It tastes like a bitter chemical to me! I have grown to love my oats/almond butter mix without Splenda though, and I never thought that would be possible. It may take some getting used to, but I'm sure you could do it!
